Donald Nicolson

Professor Donald Nicolson OBE is Director of the University of Essex Law Clinic and was founding Director of the University of Bristol Law Clinic and the University of Strathclyde Law Clinic. He was educated at the Universities of Cape Town (BA and LLB) and Cambridge (PhD) and has previously taught at the Universities of Cape Town, Reading, Bristol and Strathclyde. Donald currently teaches various clinical courses and has published various articles on law clinics and clinical legal education, most recently the book How to Set up and Run a Law Clinic, the co-authored with Richard Grimes and JoNel Newman. He has also published numerous articles and a co-authored books on lawyers’ ethics, a co-edited book on affirmative action, a book and articles on evidence and proof, articles and a co-edited book on feminism and criminal law, and articles on criminal law and gender, domestic violence, feminist legal theory and legal theory more generally. Donald is on the editorial board of Legal Ethics and the International Journal of the Legal Profession and a trustee of the Clinical Legal Education Organisation. In 2011, Donald was awarded an OBE for services to the legal profession.
