To implement the project “Promote activities on online legal support of Law lecturers and students in Vietnam” signed between the Head of School of Law, Vietnam National University (VNU) with Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung’s representative, an online legal support and counseling service office located at E1 building, 144 Xuan Thuy Street, Cau Giay District, Hanoi was launched on March 31st, 2011.
Many lawyers, delegates from national and foreign organizations and media institutions, lecturers and students of School of Law participated in the launching ceremony. Prof.Dr. Pham Hong Thai – Head of School of Law and Ms Nadia Charaby, the representative of Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung (Germany) were Co-Chairman of the ceremony.
The operation of Online legal support and counseling service Office will provide online legal services for the poor, the vulnerable people and other objects in the society. The Office would bring clients legal opinions, support them to resolve their problems quickly and legally. In case of necessary and at the requests of the clients, the Office can recommend some reliable lawyers and law firms, who can protect their interests.
Through online counseling and support activities, the Office also plays a key role of training legal counseling and other soft skills to students of School of Law, VNU. Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Thai – Head of School of Law has emphasized: “The Office is set up not only for training students legal practice skills and professional ethics, but also for helping people improve their understanding of the law”
Online legal counseling and support is a new form of legal service, appeared in Vietnam to meet the development and application of information technology in all aspects of social life. The difficulty in implementing this kind of service will be multiplied in comparison with the traditional one. This is the opinion of the majority of the ceremony’s participants. Foreseening the difficulties and refering opinions of the delegates, the representative of School of Law also mentioned the determination of the leaders, lecturers, students and lawyers involved in the project as well as the cooperation of the agencies, organizations and partners in the Office’s construction and development. However, these initial problems are inevitable and the Office will need the understanding, sharing and collaboration from clients.
