Asia Fair Trial Practices Roundtable

Trust Building Strategies when Representing People Who Use Drugs in Criminal Trials

The upcoming virtual roundtable, titled “Trust Building Strategies when Representing People Who Use Drugs in Criminal Trials”, will address the critical importance of building and maintaining trust between legal representatives and people who use drug. Trust is essential to ensuring fair trial rights and effective legal representation, particularly for people who use drugs, who often face stigma and discrimination within the justice system. Without trust, communication between clients and legal representatives may break down, negatively impacting case outcomes and leading to distrust in the legal system. This roundtable will focus to explore the barriers and solutions for trust building. Additionally, it will provide a space to share knowledge, and develop practical strategies to support both legal practitioners and clients in improving fairness and outcomes in criminal trials.
